an Ordain Christian Minister, within Baptist Church Detroit

I accepted Christ when I was five years old, and have never gotten over it. Having placed my faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ, I find myself secure in, and because of Him. While I have failed Him many times, He has never failed me. When abandoned by those who should have been there for me, the God’s Spirit, and His Word, have been a constant comfort.

Ps. 27:10 “When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.”

I have seen the hypocrisy of every denomination, including my own, and have purposed, with God as my help, to show people that there is something different and genuine about the person of Jesus Christ, and try daily to exemplify His truth, love, and wisdom in my life. This is ONLY possible through His work in my life!!!

This said, I most closely identify myself with Independent Fundamental Baptist Churches who affirm the purity, and preservation of God’s Word. I cannot judge brethren who may disagree as to my particular convictions, because I am NOT their judge. So I hold strongly to my convictions, but with real generosity, and filial piety to brothers who are not similarly inclined (Eph. 4:32). I only define that brotherhood, in line with two Biblical precepts, The Deity of Christ (as Emanuel; Jesus IS God with us), and that salvation may be had by Grace alone, through Faith alone, in Christ alone. Any person who concurs with these is my brother in Christ though we may disagree on all else.

My chief concern, though, is to align my life, concerns, and interest with that of my Savior. As such I have acted upon God’s call on my life, and have received my ordination in the usual manner approved by the Baptist denomination.

I have embraced the symbolism of the Knight, and seek to exemplify the classic virtues of the knight, in faith, courage, and compassion. Not only this, but to teach my children the same, and any that I may minister to.

I love the principles of the knight, as they balance a sometimes overly pacifist notion of who Christ was that is all too popular today. Jesus was in fact the gentle Shepherd, but let us not forget that it was the shepherd who learned to protect his flock, and killed a giant, who became King, and was called a man after God’s own heart. As long as there is evil in the world there will be violence upon the innocent, so it is with a Shepherd’s heart that I take up the knights sword in defense of innocent life.

It is my prayer that that knights sword, will always take the form of peaceful dialogue, but if not then it shall be as I have taught my children to pray at the opening of our martial arts lessons:

I pray to God, I need not fight,
Or find myself in dire plight.
But if I must, it is no sin,
Then I will fight, and not give in.

The often misused scripture re: “turning the other cheek” is couched in the context of enduring persecution as the martyrs did. But today people are killed daily for no other reason than that a criminal, or drug user want to rob, and it was easier to take the money off of a dead victim, than a cooperating live one … this is not a worthy death, and brings no glory to anyone. The notion of submitting to such a death when ones family awaits, the safe return of husband, father, provider, protector, is a lie from Satan. Life is a precious gift, and should be defended for all but the the most extenuating greater good, as with the martyrs, but nothing short of their success in bring glory to God, is a good enough reason to surrender. Additionally, the role of a father is to protect his family, as much as to provide for it, and to nuture, as much as to teach by example, and word. This is my aim, God helping me I will do it. And having failed as I often have and will, I will rise eight times though I fall seven (Psalm 24:16)

I have formed a fellowship to this end, that I call:

The Knights of True North

A knight is a man (usually, but not always) who being trained, tested, and approved is then bestowed with the title and authority of a Knight. Being so empowered he is commissioned by due authority to perform worthy deeds. Such deeds may include the protection of a sacred trust, the rescue of innocents, the joining of battle, or the delivery of a message of great import. What enobles the task is not always the task, but the heart with which it is rendered (so every task must be attended to with sobriety). If as the service is rendered it is offered as if to God, then God accepts it as such; unto Him.

The knight is a man of honor, principle, character, spirituality, and morality. Any knight who is not so, has forsaken honor, and us unworthy the appelation: “Knight”.

A knights authority is from God (ultimately), act upon his circumstances rather than to forever remain a victim of them.

True North is not aso much a philosophy as it is a return to certain Biblical perspectives. In a nutshell:

Truth Exists.
“It” CAN be known.
He is seeking YOU.

Truth is not a passive principle, but an active person. His name is Jesus Christ.

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh to the father but by me.” John 14:6

In a more expanded explanation I offer the pledge of the Knights of True North:

I am a knight of True North
I follow the fixed point of Christ’s light,
and purpose to do so all of my days.
I confess that without Jesus, my Savior,
I would be without hope, without light,
and without direction.
I hope to, by God’s grace, remain true in adversity,
faithful, in persecution, and pure in temptation.
I pledge myself to truth, valor, and compassion;
the service to my Lord, and my fellows.

And so the Knights of True North are decidedly Christian, and Fundamental.

They are spiritual but also service oriented, and therefore practical.

The particular focus of the Knights of True North at this time is the reconciliation, restoration, and responsibility of the role of fathers, as understanding that process well enough to reproduce it in our son’s. It is a return to Biblical perspectives on the family. With all the pathologies, and attacks upon the family with way forward truly is back (to the Bible)

Deuteronomy 4:9 “Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;”

In all Christian Charity, May peace favor your sword, and God Bless you and yours,

Sincerely,

Rev. James P. Nelson
